Truman and McCain - Defending the Underdog

U.S. and Israel Safer with McCain
by Delta Vines

Despite the buzz from the main stream media, the U.S. presidential race is still very close between Barack Obama and John McCain. Yes, there are polls that show Obama ahead. By the same token, there are polls that show McCain ahead. The difference is in who administers the polls and to whom they speak. You can see the varying poll information for yourself at the
Real Clear Politics website.

John McCain may not have the smooth demeanor and ability to play to the camera as Barack Obama has. He may not have the multi-millions of dollars that Barack Obama has - especially after Obama went back on his word regarding public funding. (That is a fact worth remembering when considering the type of impossible promises Obama has been pledging during his campaign.)

What Sen. McCain has is experience and integrity - and the ability to help Israel as no one else has in recent years. McCain, if he would, could support Israel according to the decisions made by Israeli leaders without the U.S. forcing it's ideas as Israeli foreign policy.
Sen. McCain can put his voter base over the top of the polls and at the voting booths by standing up to the anti-Israel special interests.
Then Sen. McCain could stand up, truly, to Middle East Oil by unconditionally supporting a united Israel and a united Jerusalem.

Let's look back: In 1945 through a very unexpected turn of events, Harry S Truman became the thirty-third President of the U.S. Despite all expectations and threats from his cabinet members, in May 1948 President Truman was the first world leader to recognize the government of Israel.

In the same year, President Truman was running what many saw as a losing race for re-election as president. Who can forget the newspaper headlines on November 3, 1948 that said "Dewey Defeats Truman"? Yet, on November 3rd, 1948, the truth was that despite what had been printed in the press - Harry S Truman had been re-elected as president of the United States.

Here we are, 60 years later. We have already seen a young, inexperienced Senator Obama backpedal on his promise to support an undivided Jerusalem as pledged in his speech before AIPAC. It took less than 30 minutes for Obama to succumb to pressures from pro-Arab oil. Would a President Obama be any stronger?

Just as his democratic counterpart of 60 years ago was known for having a temper; so it is said of John McCain. Just as Harry Truman took responsibility for his actions; so does John McCain. Just as you knew what Harry Truman's policies truthfully are; so do you know it with John McCain. We do not know what Barack Obama's policies, or his temperament, truly are.

On November 5, 2008, Americans will go to the polls to vote for a new president. As with Dewey, the main stream media is expecting an easy win of Barack Obama over John McCain. If McCain wants to be a true ally to Israel - he needs to let Israel determine it's own direction. If he truly wants to be president of the U.S., he needs to show that determined leadership skill of his.

Most of all, we, the people, need to do our part, and vote. Don't assume the polls have the race all sewn up - vote! Those of us who have a deep, G-d loving and G-d fearing love for Israel - vote!

It's the future of the U.S., and it's closest ally Israel, which is on the line.
